This study aims to establish a comparative analysis between novels of the twentieth century Brazilian literature, regarding the approach taken by the works of social and historical phenomenon of the cangaço. The works Fogo Morto of José Lins do Rego and the Os Desvalidos of Francisco Dantas represent two different moments of northeast fictional production. The first work is inserted into the fiction of the '30s and '40s. The Fogo Morto consists in the tenth novel of the writer represented by character Jose Amaro, saddler that turns into helper outlaw Antonio Silvino.
